Ayes:  5   Noes:  None    Motion Passed

Met with Hugh Calvin, Peter Ridgway and Mark McMahon, Pres. Monterey Bay Region to plan 10/28 two region tour:

  • Tour with catered lunch at destination
  • Interest from MBR of making annual event, 1st year, MBR will take lead on caterer and destination, next year LPR
  • Caterer secured, potential to prepare German themed food, destination in Carmel Valley this year, if next year, would be in Santa Cruz area
  • Idea is to have a 3- in- 1 kind of tour; 1 starting Gilroy or SJ, 1 starting Santa Cruz, 1 starting Monterey / Seaside

Hybrid Meeting November or October?

Request for hand raising check in on Hybrid Meeting.  Same location, unless there is a problem – if there is, let’s get it on the table?

Similar location in Santa Cruz area is OK if they have Wi Fi and a monitor we might use?   Brief discussion on location.

Hand raising check in:  October, raise hand; November, raise hand; either one is OK – raise hand for both October and November.

  • Net Income: $ 14,821

A few items to note:

  • The vast majority of our income & expenses continues to be from Autocross
  • 2023 income now exceed expenses by roughly $23.4k, so we should start working on plans to spend some of this money. Major upcoming expenditures the annual awards banquet. We are looking at a significant year-end surplus
  • I need Board approval to pay our annual PO Box rental fee, $194
  • Roaring Camp Railroads hasn’t cashed our July 10 payment, check # 973, $1645.54. Honore, can you follow up with your contacts there to inquire about this.  Discussion:  Honore has left a message with her contact regarding payment check.

  • We will be issued new debit cards by BMO, sometime before June, 2024, which is a pretty large window!
  • I created a new online account with BMO
  • We will likely need to update bank account information with PCA, Motorsports.reg, and any other vendors whom we have authorized to deposit or withdraw directly from our account. I will try to confirm this with BMO prior to Tuesday’s meeting
  • Do we need Board of Directors’ authorization for recurring auto-debit transactions, such as our annual AX trailer insurance policy, Fat Cow Web hosting fees, etc.? These are fees that are being auto-debited from our account annually, which we have already authorized.  Discussion:  Dana advised that these fees need to be approved annually only.

Member-at-Large – John Gould

In August we completed and attached the sample ballot for board review.

I am making a motion that the board now approve the ballot.

Proposal:  John Gould proposes we accept the voting ballot.  Second: Honore D’Angelo  Ayes: 5   Noes:  None  Motion passes

Chairperson Reports:

Autocross – Dave Dunwoodie

We’ve had a couple of AX events since the last board meeting.  On August 27th we had 66 drivers and September 9th 56 drivers. Both events went well and both experimented with using all of our space available at Salinas Airport.

Our Zone 7 dinner on the 26th was well attended at Mountain Mike’s with about 25 members from LPR, GGR, SVR, SEQ, Redwood, & Diablo. We came out well below budget spending only $262.71.  We did not use the full amount of the expected $500 from PCA.   The remaining balance can be used for the MBR combined tour.

Our next event will be Kill-A-Kone on October 29th. We are open to ideas for the charity fundraiser.

ALSO – I will need board approval for the Airport Site Fee, Trailer Driver Reimbursement, and Lunches of about $3800 for the Oct 29th Kill-A-Kone AX.

Proposal: Honore proposes we approve estimated fees for Oct. 29 Kill-A-Kone AX.  Second: John Gould Ayes:  5  Noes:  None  Motion passes

Charity  – Kathy Musser, Kris Vanacore, Emilie Highley

The flyers for the Jacob’s Heart Tour and for Kill-A-Kone AX save the dates are up on social media and were part of the blast. Kathy Musser will update the flyer with additional information for the October blast.
For Kill-A-Kones, (advertised to include GGR and LPRs AX events on Saturday, Oct. 28 for GGR and Sunday, Oct. 29 for LPR), Dave Dunwoodie and I are working on trying to make this year’s LPR event a little different.  Maybe add a Halloween twist or a raffle to win an AX 2024 day.  If you have any ideas, please contact Kris and or Dave.

Hospitality – Emilie Highley

Prieta Post Editor – Don Chaisson

The Sept/Oct issue of The Prieta POST was published Sept 7th.

Thanks to an incredible article and photo resources for a Remembrance of Ken Illes by Kris.   Thank you

And to other contributors, John R, Judi J, Dana D.   The more contributors the better!!

The readership statistics are very encouraging.

We had over 325 views by 176 “people” … suggesting more than a few took a look more than once!

What is even more encouraging, readers have spent over 20 hours reading the issue….

This represents almost twice the engagement from the last issue.

Almost as encouraging is the focus on articles, evidenced by the following chart:

Time on particular pages.

My analysis:

Routine opening pages (Table of Contents, Back Story of cover photo, leadership page):  a bit more time than just flipping through.

Columns: (Editors, Dear Poloma, Driving with Friends):  All three of these were quite “sticky” — meaning readers spend more than average time on each of those pages.   Dear Poloma was the best-read page in the issue.  So, it’s official, Judi’s column is a HIT!!!!

The Calendar page(s):  Interestingly, most folks did not spend a lot of time on these pages :   Any thoughts?  I’m a bit disappointed on this.

Not surprising, Kris’s article on Ken was very “sticky”….   Getting more time than the other articles.

The WERKS articles (Interview with T. Provasi and WERKS review) had steady but “quick” reads.   I think that some folks enjoyed this and others took a pass.

Members Corner: This was stickier than the WERKS articles.

In Case You Missed it (repeats of event articles that previously appeared in Dana’s email blasts).  About the same as the WERKS readership.

In the Zone and “One Last Look”.   Interestingly, folks spent a lot of time on page 35 which had the end of “In the Zone”, Sponsor index and “One Last Look”.   I’m sure no one really spent that much time on the Sponsor index, so… I’m guessing that “One Last Look” captured some interest!

One thing that continues from last “statistics look” was how viewed:  >50% used their computer, but more than a third used their “Phones” to view.   The Flip book “flips” on a phone but only shows one page at a time unless you use the phone “horizontally”. — but then the 2-page spreads are really hard to read.   You can read the pages when you use the phone “upright”, but the photography is best viewed on a “computer”, either a full desk top or at least a nice laptop.

So, here is my take so far on what our readers are currently enjoying.

Our LPR readers really enjoy “NEW” regional information… Dear Poloma, editorials seem to be appreciated also.    Rehash of already seen trip reports are, well, yesterday’s news.

I think a number of our readers enjoy some of the general car/mortorsport/Porsche Community articles that’s I’ve been putting out.   It’s a challenge to get all this each and every two months!

Next Issue:  I’m planning on a Rennsport Theme (hey, Rennsport only happens every 4 or 5 years!)    I’ll try and highlight LPR participation in the “75 years of Porsche Color” Display while exploring the variety of colors that will be on display.   I’ll try and bring out PCA activities as much as I can.  I just have to say something about the Iconic race cars that we will see, hear and smell.   This is part of our Porsche DNA.    For more “local”, I’d like to have/do a full report on AutoX #8 aka. Kill a Kone and the charity— thoughts on this?

Also, I’ll probably queue up the Annual Meeting and next year, so I’d like to get info on any special events for next year.

Thanks to all who help put out the POST.   I’m having a good time putting the issues together and hope more and more of our members will enjoy reading our efforts.

Don requests approval for $149.00 payment to Flip payable in November.

Proposal:  Honore requests approval for $149.00 payment to Flip.  Second: John Gould  Ayes: 5   Noes:  None  Motion passes

Public Relations – Open

Our next inclusion in ”From the Regions” will appear in the October issue of Panorama. The LPR information boards have been updated.

(We are looking for someone to take this position – basics are sending photos, possibly an article into Panorama.  John is happy to continue taking pictures, but anyone should feel free to take photos.)

Safety – John Reed

The Observer’s Reports for the August 27th, September 9th LPR autocrosses and the September 10th Pinnacles Loop Tour were sent to PCA in a timely manner. There were no incidents to report.

Tour – Hugh Calvin

The Pinnacles Tour was conducted on 10-September.  Tour fees ($5) waivers apply to this and remaining tours this year.

Next up is the 993 Registry Tour on 27-September.

Further out:  Jacob’s Heart (10/14), Ole Amigos (10/21), Joint Tour w/ MBR (10/28), Butterfly (11/18), and Toys for Tots (12/10).

Social Media – Dana Ambrisko

Social Media Chair report:

  • August Mid-month Blast was sent on August 15th
  • September Blast Update was sent on August 31st
  • September Mid-month Blast will be sent on or around September 15
  • The Sept Oct 2023 Edition of the Prieta POST was distributed to the membership as its own entity on September 7th

Thank you everyone for submitting information to me 3-4 days prior to the Blast’s distribution. Gives me time to add and review the content.

Nothing else to report.

Discussion:  Dana Drysdale reported that he has not received approval on Logo design change.  Need to wait before changing logo.

Tech – Peter Ridgway

Absent – No report submitted.

Webmaster – Jim Turk

During August, the webmaster:

  1. Performed website WordPress plugin maintenance
  2. Added and Removed events from the home page
  3. Worked on setting up the election ballot

I would like to ask for board approval of $365.73 for a one-year renewal of our Fatcow premium (web hosting) account ($344.74), and a one-year renewal of our lprpca.org domain name ($20.99). This is paid automatically using the club credit card.

Just so the board knows how much I’m spending on the election, I will be signing up for a Starter Plan from SurveyMonkey.com which costs $99/month beginning October 1. I use SurveyMonkey for the annual Board election and awards voting during October and the first part of November (2 months or $198). The monthly expenditure falls within the current spending limitation for officers and appointees in the bylaws.

Proposal:  Honore proposes we approve fees described in report.  Second: John Gould   Ayes: 5   Noes:  None  Motion passes

Old Business:

Via Email:   We lost our Sept 23/24 AX dates but an opportunity just came up to use Sept 9th at Salinas Airport. GGR is doing an event at Sonoma Sept 30th, which they offered to share with LPR, but I will be busy with Rennsport and a house full of guests.

I need board approval for:
Site Fee – $2500
Tow Driver – $200
Lunch – $800
Portables – $500

Proposal:  Bob Morgan proposes we accept Dave’s request for Sept. 9th Autocross fees. Second:Kathy Musser  Ayes: 7 Noes: None Motion passes

New Business:

Hugh Calvin would like to replace the Tour CB Radios with GMRS Radios.   Proposing purchasing at least two radios – one for the Lead Car and one for the Sweep car, but four would be better for larger tours that need to be split into two tour groups.   He believes that it should be about $300.00.   Both Andy and Dave have some suggestions that they can email to Hugh that would cost less.

Adjourn Meeting:  Meeting adjourned by President Dana at 8:02 PM
