LPR BOARD MEETING MINUTES
July 11, 2023, 7:02PM to 7:54PM

Call to Order

President Dana called the meeting to order at 7:02PM.

Board Member Reports:

President – Dana Drysdale

Board Minutes:  President Dana asked the Board to approve the June 13, 2023 Board minutes.

Ayes:  5   Noes:  None    Motion Passed

  • Picnic and New Member Subsidy – Worked with VP Honore and Peter Ridgway to solicit new members for Member Appreciation Picnic, applied for New Member Subsidy with support from Peter, Kris Vanacore, and Brian Adkins, Z7 Rep.  $500 subsidy should be received week of 7/10.
  • Possible 2 Region Event – Checked in with Mark McMahon, Monterey Region President on interest in a Tour from North, Tour from South, meetup for a meal, possibly an Oktoberfest meal.  Extremely positive response.  Will check out location in Seaside, may be too small, may have to be non-German food event, few German restaurants left.  This could be a great thing, got the idea from meeting Mark last spring at Z7 President’s meeting.  The subsidy form reminded me to check in with Mark again – there is a subsidy for 2 region events.

Discussion:   If Oktoberfest is of interest, September is the month to celebrate.   However, we have Pinnacle Tour and also Rennsport in September.  If we cannot find time this year, possibly next Spring.

Hybrid Meeting Test – John Gould, Peter Ridgway and I met at Legends – site of our Board and Committee Chair meeting – to test the internet and equipment for a hybrid meeting.  Our remote Zoom leader was Jim Turk.  Jim will send out the meeting invite.  We do need an in-person quorum in case we are not as successful as we were last week, that is why I asked for in person quorum up front.

Vice President – Honore D’Angelo

7/15/2023 – Annual Picnic at Roaring Camp – current count = 77: 72 adults and 5 kids
8/3/2023 – Thirsty Thursday at Legends Pizza – 5965 Almaden Expy Ste 125 San Jose, CA 95120 5-7PM
12/2/2023 – Awards Banquet

Secretary – Sheila Dunwoodie

Thank you for your reports in advance of the meeting!

Treasurer – Andy Ward

Member-at-Large – John Gould

LPR Nominating Committee Meeting on June 29, was very productive.

  1. For officers, we have a “Member-at-Large” candidate identified and are narrowing our search for a volunteer for the Activities Director position.
  2. We have selected Crown awards as our new supplier.
  3. We are reviewing all of the awards and the committee wishes to Reach out to the Board for recommendations of other people to nominate for Newcomer of the Year, Man of the Year, and other awards.  Should this be a blast?
  4. Awards list:
    Ken Iles Competition Driving Award
Harry Reed Memorial Award for Outstanding Worker of the Year
Jim Kershaw Memorial Tour Award:   single day tour
Jim Kershaw Memorial Tour Award:  multi day tour

    Newcomer of the Year:
    GTG of the Year:

Discussion:  Currently in the By-Laws – Page 8 – Section 9 – Liabilities of Membership. Sum not to exceed $100.00 without prior approval of a majority of the Board of Directors.

Proposal:   John Gould made a motion to increase the $100.00 Board of Directors expenditure limit for club purchases to $200.00. the board approved adding it to the fall ballot for club approval.  Second:  Honore D’Angelo.   Ayes:  5   Noes:  None Motion Passes

Chairperson Reports:

Autocross – Dave Dunwoodie

Saturday, July 8th, was our very successful AX #6 at Salinas with 62 drivers having a great time with mild weather. We should have over $1500 profit from the event.

Our next event will be a combined Zone 7 event with GGR on August 26th and LPR on the 27th at Salinas Airport. I submitted the form last week to Brian Adkins and Brant Ballantyne for the Dual Region Subsidy to help with the dinner on the 26th (location yet to be determined).

Our September 23rd date at Salinas Airport that was tentative has not been granted because the weekend is needed for preparation for their big public airshow in October. We looked at an option for using a lot at Sears Point but only Sept 30th is available. GGR offered to share the date with LPR but I’m passing because I’ll be busy at Rennsport Reunion, price is very high, and it will be hard to bring in enough Porsche drivers. That leaves us with 9 total AX this year which is still tied with the most we’ve ever had.

I’ll need board approval for fees for our Aug 26th event:

$2500 for the site
$900 for lunches
$200 for Trailer Towing
$300 for Zone 7 fees
Total $3900

Proposal:  John Gould proposes we approve the $3,900 for fees for Aug. 26 event as described by Dave.  Second: Andy Ward   Ayes:  5   Noes:  None   Motion passes

Charity – Kathy Musser, Kris Vanacore, Emilie Highley

No Report.

Hospitality – Emilie Highley

Email sent regarding the passing of Ken Iles.

Prieta Post Editor – Don Chaisson

The July/Aug issue of the Prieta POST was issued July 9th via the region’s enews@enews.pca.org (by Dana A).   The issue was a week late since so much of the content was from Porsche Parade and just didn’t have time to put everything together for July 1.

Thanks to Dana Drysdale and Kristine Vanacore for their help in sewing up the issue and their help in general.

I’ll take a look at opening statistics on Tues to gauge the initial uptake of the issue.

I had hoped to meet other PCA Newsletter editors and the Newsletter chair at Parade, but I was pretty much unsuccessful in crossing trails with folks or they just didn’t show up to Parade.   I’m still waiting for comments from the judges on the Nov/Dec 2022 issue which was submitted for their opinions in the PCA contest.

The next issue was set for a lot of WERKS coverage, but now will also feature a “Remembrance” of Mr. Iles, led by Kristine V.   Thanks in advance for anyone who can help Kristine’s assembly of comments and remembrances.

Request for Payment for two months of InDesgn has been forwarded to LPR-Treasurer.

So far, the metrics show from 7/9 through 7/10, that there were 155 views (135 were un-replicated views).   Dana Ambrisko suggested that this increase could be that it was emailed separately from the Blast.    Will review in future months, to see the metrics.

Public Relations – Open

No Public Relations items to report, except LPR is included in the “From the Regions” in the current issue of Panorama.  This was the picture of Hugh and Nancy Calvin from the Easter parade.

(We are looking for someone to take this position – basics are sending photos, possibly an article into Panorama.  John is happy to continue taking pictures, but anyone should feel free to take photos.)

Safety – John Reed

The PCA Observer’s reports for the May and June LPR Autocross and the Tour de King City were sent to PCA National in a timely manner. The release forms were sent or given to the LPR Activities Director. There were no incidents to report.

Tour – Hugh Calvin

No tours conducted in June.  Board approved Tour fees ($5) waivers for remaining tours this year.

Next up is the Forest Bathing Tour on 23 July.

Further out:  Pinnacles Tour (9/10), Jacob’s Heart (10/14), Ole Amigos (10/21), Butterfly (11/18), Toys for Tots (12/10)

Social Media – Dana Ambrisko

  • July Blast Update was sent on July 1st
  • July Mid-month Blast will be sent on or around 15th

Nothing else to report.

Tech – Peter Ridgway

Working on an August tech session.   Dana stated that he received a nice reception at the Porsche Stevens Creek. Met many people.  Porsche Stevens Creek is the South Bay Porsche Drive dealer for renting Porsches.  They are a good sponsor.  We will write an article.  We have signed 3 new sponsors.

Webmaster – Jim Turk

During the month of June and early July, the webmaster did the following:

  1. Maintenance applied to WordPress plugins
  2. Added a few flyers for tours and events
  3. Added and modified a few advertisements in Unclassified Ads
  4. Added some information about Ken Iles’ passing
  5. Updated the board minutes on the website
  6. Updated the anniversaries on the website
  7. Updated the Zone 7 president’s In The Zone

Discussion:   Jim needs a volunteer to host the August 13 Cars & Coffee at Carpo.   Honore has volunteered.

Old Business:   Membership Directory

Proposal submitted by Peter Ridgway by email:

We have a new Membership Directory ready for printing.  Kevin and I have finished the curating and layout and here’s the quote for printing.

I recommend ordering 75 copies.  John Reed and I seem to remember we did NOT need that many copies last time.  In fact, John still has a few of the 2019’s.  I think we can have them available for the Family Picnic.

So, motion to spend $345 for 75 copies of the 2023 Membership Directory.   I need a second and a Board vote of approval.

Proposal:  Peter proposes we spend $345 for 75 copies of the 2023 Membership Directory.  Second:  Kathy Musser Ayes: 6 done by email   Noes:  None Motion passes

Update:  Kevin will be bringing the Membership Directory to the picnic.

New Business:  LPR Banner – Kris Vanacore is searching for our current banner.   John Reed is checking his garage.   However, if not found or if found and is in bad shape, plan to order a new banner using Chris Shaut as point of contact.

Adjourn Meeting:  Meeting adjourned by President Dana at 7:54 PM

PCA's Good Time Region, since 1970.
