        LPR BOARD MEETING MINUTES
January 9, 2024, 7:00 PM to 8:07PM

Call to Order

President Dana called the meeting to order at 7:00PM.

Board Member Reports:

President – Dana Drysdale

December 2023 Board Minutes:  President Dana asked the Board to approve the December 2023 Board minutes.  Ayes:  6   Noes:  None    Motion Passed

New Board / Chair Update to PCA – Our annual update is complete.  We do this before we can receive any revenue sharing from PCA.  We get a receipt for doing the update.

Zone Awards – Peter is helping me with 2 nominations for “permanent” Zone awards – a Lifetime Achievement and Wall of Fame.  Will get to Board in next 2 weeks, Board approves, recommends changes, etc. first.  This year’s timing is January, next year is November.  Brian Adkins, Rik Larson, and I have a committee that administers these awards subject to Zone Region President’s review.  Region Presidents vote on these awards, individual awards are top vote getter, “permanent” are simple majority of Presidents. Any nominations, questions, anything else, please let me know.  Zone also has Enthusiast of the Year – one that Peter received in 2022, and has a Club Service “Newcomer of the Year”.  AX and Concours also have “Newcomer” awards, several others not based on time or scores. Zone award dinner is Saturday, March 2.

January 6 Car Show at VA Rehab – LPR had a great turn out, we ordered 27 lunches, 2 were spares.  Many people stayed and visited at lunch, Peter said this is like a GTG.  The facilities, the patients and the staff are superb.  Received many thank yous from “T”, the VA Coordinator.  The VA clients were great, one was even a retired photographer for Blackhawk and brought autographed shots of Vic Elford.  GGR asked for pictures for their publication, one of the group shots will be good for a Pano submission.  Great cars, too.  Many comments to come back when it’s warmer in March / April, will look at the calendar with the Activities Chair.

Request for Reimbursement – Lunch from Panera for LPR members at Car Show at VA Rehab – $418.88.  Invoice provided to Treasurer.  What the President learned is that for large orders, Panera adds on a Service Charge / “Tip”, it was $50.62, and Tax of $30.79, neither are displayed in the Panera app.  Asking for a second and approval.

Proposal: Dana Drysdale proposes we approve $418.88 for lunch reimbursement for VA Car Show.   Second: Kathy Musser  Ayes:  6  Noes: None   Motion passes

Our new trailer is expected in 2-3 weeks. Plans are in the works for building the countertop and storage inside. We will have a group trailer work date probably in early February.   A new copy of the pink slip for the old trailer needs to be requested.  Just announced, we will be having an AX Instructor School February 3rd at the Livermore Community Center from 9am-3pm. I have 12 from LPR going and each of the regions are paying for their candidates at $25/person, that would be $300 that LPR will be billed.

Nothing to report.

Hospitality – Emilie Highley

An encouraging card was sent to Valerie Schaefer-Gould following her broken back to remind her that LPR is thinking of her.

Prieta Post Editor – Don Chaisson

The Jan/Feb Issue of the POST is (almost) ready to go.  It is assembled and awaiting a one-page President’s Message — likely from Dana by Monday.   Once received, I’ll push into its spot and close out the issue.   We should be able to publish it via Dana Ambrisko’s email blast either Tuesday or Wed.

The issue features a lengthy review of our Annual Awards Banquet, a review of the LPR Concours at Fremont Porsche with interview with Customer Experience Manager, Elita Gamboa, a look at PCA SIM racing (piggy backing on a PCA advertisement) and a Looking Forward LPR Calendar for 2024.

Dear Poloma will be taking a break for lack of member participation — thanks to Judi for her very innovative contributions.  Not sure how we get the general membership to come play with us if they are this passive.  I’ll probably make some comment about this in the next issue.  We may want to say something in Dana’s email blast — let’s talk about this.

For the Mar/Apr issue, I’ll feature our Car Show at the VA Hospital, a feel-good event to be sure.   But with not many events in Jan or Feb, things will be forward looking highlighting upcoming St. Patrick Day GTG and the Easter Parade events.  I Also plan to promote the upcoming SRO races at Sonoma Raceway to stoke up interest in LPR race fans.  I’ll try for another feature on AutoX (since AX is such a big thing for LPR).  Dave??   I may also do a Driver’s Education article just for information and maybe get some people interested in that speed event.

I’ve asked Peter McMillan for permission to use one of his technical blogs about repairing front headlights (the content is print ready).   We can use that as a teaser for more technical articles and/or technical events — Peter R, hope you can get something going with dealers or piggy back onto BR Racing upcoming technical meetings.

Speaking of the BR Racing events, we can advertise its Feb 10 event (DATA and Video systems, Cayman and Boxster complete car review).   I’ve got to try to rearrange my home schedule for me to attend this — 50/50 chance.  Their first event is Jan 20, but that would be too difficult to build into the POST at this late date.

As usual, if anyone has ideas for interesting stories or content, don’t be shy!   I think we get bonus points for multiple contributors!

Doris is doing a good job in proofreading.

Public Relations – Open

Absent – Report submitted by John Reed:  Sent in a photo of the LPR members gathered for the Toys for Tots tour to Panorama.  No idea when it will be published but look for it in future issues.

We are looking for someone to take this position – basics are sending photos, possibly an article into Panorama.  John is happy to continue taking pictures, but anyone should feel free to take photos.

Safety – John Reed

Absent – Report submitted.

Nothing to report.

Tour – Hugh Calvin

The Toys for Tots Tour was conducted in December.  Tour fees ($5) waivers apply to remaining tours of 2023.

Next scheduled Tour is Forest Bathing Tour on 16-June.

Further out:  Year-end tours [Jacob’s Heart (Oct) and Toys for Tots (Dec)] have not been scheduled yet.  We’re planning to host a Joint Tour with MBR in the Fall, but there’s nothing firm at this time.

Discussion topic 1:  Tour Fee waivers.  I believe ‘No shows’ did not occur for last year’s tours.  Shall we consider Tour Registration Fee waivers for 2024?

  • Consensus is that the fees are insignificant to the revenue of the club.

Discussion topic 2:  Don Chaisson wants to organize an excursion to a Sonoma Raceway event.  At the moment, it’s informal, and we’re not handling it as a Tour.  Should this be formalized as a Tour?  (Pros/Cons/PCA requirements)

  • Don needs to be at the Raceway early, so he is not able to organize a tour. Others feel that there could be a conflict with PCA requirements.  (?)  No tour will be set up.

Proposal:  Hugh proposes approval that Tour Fees to be waived for 2024.  Second:  Kathy   Ayes:  6   Noes:   None   Motion passes

Social Media – Dana Ambrisko

  • January Blast Update was sent on January 1st
  • January Mid-month Blast will be sent on or around the 15th
  • Email was sent to LPR Club members regarding name badges requests and picking them up

Tech – Peter Ridgway

Tech Session at BRRacing on January 20.   Expect about 100 people to attend.  BRRacing will be providing lunch.
