2020 brought us many, uh, disappointments.

However, one bright, shining spot was the election that was held for the 2021 LPR Board of Directors.

Beginning October 1, the paid-up members of the club had the opportunity to vote for their choices for a month via SurveyMonkey or a paper ballot (and, yes, someone actually did vote by paper ballot – thank you for supporting the USPS in their time of need).

This year’s slate of well-qualified and determined candidates worked extremely hard at establishing beachheads in the nether regions of the PAC organizations supporting their election. In fact, the regions were so nether that none of us heard about the incessant political donation requests to fund their frenzied drive toward electoral success. Or maybe my spam filter deep-sixed those requests. Anyway, there appear to have not been any shenanigans in the fundraising arena.

As many of you may (or may not) know, there are seven Board of Director positions that are up for election each year. Some positions can be held for two years, with the consent of the club and the candidate, and some only last for a year (the position, not the holder of the position – we hope that the holders continue on for a long, long time).

The seven elected positions are president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, membership, activities and member at large (which used to be the immediate past president, but now is an elected official of the club, although PCA National still wants to know about the immediate past president – they don’t conform to our club structure – but maybe they will someday).

As usual, there are strict rules about when campaigning can begin, usually initiated by the out-going president as he or she starts jawboning club members in the ancient rite of “will you please be {fill in whatever position you would like here}”. That’s the campaigning. (The point of this part of my rant is that this club is literally carried on the shoulders of about 10 percent of its members and we all owe them a debt of gratitude for choosing to serve.)

And so, after a long, and arduous process, these well-deserved individuals will be leading us out of the darkness that was 2020 and into the light of 2021, and we may all, possibly, be able to finally raise that glass of champagne to toast the 50th anniversary of the Loma Prieta Region of the Porsche Club of North America.

Without further ado, here are your 2021 LPR officers:

President – the ever-charming Peter Ridgway back in the saddle again

Vice-President – Kris Vanacore who has a lot of stick-to-it-iveness

Secretary – Dana Drysdale in his first stint as an officer

Treasurer – Johnny Musser, back again to keep the numbers adding up correctly and the IRS off our back

Membership – Iain McNeill who has retired from being the secretary and trying to figure out “who said that” at board meetings

Activities – Bob Morgan who must be quite tired of putting events on the club calendar, only to cancel them

Member-at-Large – Steve Graham, the keeper of the bylaws and policies and procedures updates

Congrats to all the new officers. Please support them in their quest to keep the club moving forward, and please please please consider stepping up to the plate by volunteering your service as a board member or committee chair. We need YOU!
