Zone 7 Presidents Meeting

The Zone 7 presidents meeting was held on February 26th in Roseville, California, located just east of Sacramento. Nine of the regions participated in the meeting with some regions having both their presidents and vice presidents attending. Special guest in attendance were Todd Benz, PCA National Secretary, David Witteried, PCA National RPM Chair, and Sim Racing Zone 7 racing committee member Chip Witt. Chip presented an informational presentation on PCA Sim Racing and provided details on what Sim Racing is, how to get involved and how fun the program is for participants. David Witteried provided an executive summary on updates to the region procedures manual (RPM) to make the information clearer and easier to find, and to update new policies and procedures. The new RPM is scheduled to be mailed to region presidents the first week of March. This document is a very valuable resource to your region’s leadership.

Todd Benz provided an update on risk management, the 2022 PCA Strategic Plan, and provided the presidents an in-depth preview of the club’s new Drone Policy. Yes, drones will now be allowed at our events with strict guidelines and insurance requirements which your region presidents have been informed about.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for region leadership to share some of the challenges they are facing in their regions as well as some of the things they are doing to increase member participation and to provide and plan events that appeal to a members who all have a diverse interest in different types of events.

I also reported that Zone 7 finished 2021 with 4% increase in membership, which given our current climate dealing with Covid is just remarkable. Kudos to the region presidents and membership chairs!

PCA has determined that the use of commercially available drones has proliferated and will enhance PCA’s ability to produce world-class content. Drone usage for aerial photography and videography is essential to providing high level digital photos and cinematography and will capture photos and video unavailable through traditional means. A copy of PCA’s minimum standards have been approved so that regions can apply for the special insurance coverage and have guidelines for the commercial drone company to adhere to. There will be a region focus seminar in the coming months for regions with an interest in using drone photography or videography to use for future events.

There was an hour of the meeting devoted for each region president to discuss some of their region’s successes during the year as well as to talk about some of the challenges facing their regions moving forward. Many suggestions were made regarding how to deal with these challenges as well as taking back some new ideas. The interchange of ideas was welcomed by all.
