Despite the Pandemic, Zone 7 Membership Sees Steady Growth:

Membership throughout all regions in Zone 7 have shown steady growth in 2021 of 2.8% or 178 additional primary members since January of 2021 when compared to year to date membership at the end of 2020. For fiscal 2020 Zone 7 had 6323 primary members and through August of 2021 primary membership in Zone 7 is at 6501 for an increase of 178 members. As you can see from the chart below all regions have shown significant increase in year to date membership compared to the end of fiscal 2020. I think this bodes well for the health of our club as the largest single marque car club in the world. The data was supplied by National Membership Director, Jim Hemig.

Zone 7 Concours Series Update;

Due to all the pandemic restrictions earlier in the year, most events in Zone 7 were cancelled or rescheduled. This was the case with the scheduling of concours series for 2021 with our first event not happening until August. With a compressed schedule, events were scheduled quite close to each other with 3 concours events scheduled for October. Redwood Region will host their event at Luchessi Park in Petaluma on October 3rd, Diablo Region will host their event on October 17th at Porsche of Livermore and Golden Gate Region will host their event on October 24th at Porsche Redwood City, formerly know as Carlsen Porsche. The final event of the series will not be held until November 14th and will be hosted by Loma Prieta Region. With 7 events scheduled for the series, competitors for year end trophies will have to compete in at least 50% of the events in order to qualify for Zone Concours series awards.

Due to issues related to the recent wildfires, Sierra Nevada Region had to cancel their event on August 28-29th and because of calendar issues, will not reschedule their event for this year.

Zone 7 Autocross Series Update;

The Zone 7 Autocross series will conclude with a 2-day weekend at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows on October 16-17th with the Sacramento Valley Region hosting the event on the 16th and Redwood Region hosting on Sunday the 17th. The clubs will host a Saturday night dinner at the track catered by the Thunderhill Café. With over 50 drivers having competed in each of the Zone events this season, all events have been very well attended although attendance has been severely restricted for the 4 Zone events held recently at the Cow Palace in Daly City. It is hopeful that for the 2022 season, restrictions will be lifted, and attendance will be allowed to increase.

For current year to date standings in the Zone 7 Autocross Series visit the Zone 7 website to see who are the current class as well as PAX leaders go to the Zone 7 Website link at: https://zone7.pca.org/autocross-results/.

Sierra Nevada Region Mammoth Tour:

Sierra Nevada hosted their annual Mammoth Tour on the weekend of September 24th-26th and was attended by more than 80 PCA members representing the Sierra Nevada, Golden Gate, Yosemite, Loma Prieta, and Sacramento Valley Regions. Golden Gate Region had 15 cars making the tour and was the largest non-Sierra Nevada region represented. The tour for most started in Reno area on Friday afternoon and was led by Sierra Nevada Region member and PCA National Treasurer, Craig Kugler. There was a meet and greet social hour at the Eatery Restaurant on Friday evening that allowed participants a chance to get to know one another as well as for old friends to get reacquainted. Saturday mornings tour had some 43 cars broken into three tour groups of between 15-20 cars with leads and back doors assigned. The tour was preceded by a driver’s meeting before the 100 mile tour of the spine of the Eastern Sierra around June Lake, Mono Lake and across the high desert where drivers got to enjoy a handful of epic S- turns, long stretches of unobstructed road and some rolling hills with whoop-de-do’s that sent your belly into your throat at the right speeds.

Following the tour, the region organized a lunch at a local eatery and another tour, the Mammoth Lake Basin, in the afternoon for those that wanted more drive time. In the evening, there was a Porsche car display on a closed street where participants could gather and show off their cars to the general public followed by an arranged dinner at Burger’s Restaurant.

For Sunday there was an optional tour of the beautiful spires of the Sierra backcountry and provided a leisurely drive and opportunity to capture some great photos before heading home.

 Thanks to the members of Sierra Nevada Region for hosting a phenomenal tour and looking forward to attending next year around Father’s Day.
